My Fitness Journey

As anyone who knew me when I was growing up would tell you, I was a VERY active child.  I think my mother was hoping to channel my activity with something productive, because when I was three she had me try dance lessons, I ended up loving it, and continued to dance for the next 12 years.  In 8th grade, I traded in my ballet slippers and jazz shoes for sneakers and played basketball.  In my second year of high school I started to "run" cross country ;), and throw in Track & Field.  I wasn't very good at any of it--but I enjoyed the teams I was a part of and it was good exercise! I participated in these sports until I graduated.  Unfortunately, during my four college years, I hit the books and not the pavement or the weight room.  Once in awhile I’d try to start going to the gym, but inevitably a paper or test would always interfere.  Last year, I was at my all time highest weight.  I wouldn't go near a scale, but when I finally did, I'd been exercising and watching what I ate, and it said 215, I think at my worst I was at or above 220.  =(

How did it happen?  I can tell you all the excuses that I've come up with, but instead, let’s just say that I ate too much and didn’t exercise enough.  Those choices were MINE and mine alone, and I had to take responsibility for those choices before I could begin to undo all the damage that I’d done to my body.

When I started substitute teaching, I really committed to getting my BODY back.  On September 15, 2011, I contacted my boyfriend’s sister, Jessica Timme because she had successfully lost 70 lbs in the previous 1-2 years, and kept it off!  I needed her help!

I was DONE with yo-yo dieting and gym "binges", this time I wanted a PERMANENT solution this time.  I was 23, depressed, and I desperately needed a change.

In January, Jess become a Beachbody coach, and suggested (firmly lol) that I do
P90X2.  I was terrified.  But John (my boyfriend) said he’d do it with me soo…we bought it, set our start date, and took our before pictures

Taking these pictures and committing to a full 90 day workout...ANY workout really, at that point was really scary for me.  Up until then, I'd been walking in place at home, doing sit ups (maybe 50...on a good day?), and doing little things like leg raises and kettlebell swings when I felt extra ambitious ;).  P90X2 was no joke...and I honestly thought I'd never be able to complete it.  But...with some modifications and my calendar filled out, I refused to give up!  I just kept trying, kept improving little by little...and eventually I started to see improvements!!  When I graduated P90X2 in April, the MENTAL challenges that I'd overcome were the foundation that I've now used to power through all the other workouts programs I've completed, and the motivation that I needed to make sure that this is a lifestyle change, and not another "fling" with fitness.

Check out the video below to see more about the progress of my transformation!!...and then fast-forward to today (December 2nd, 2012), I’ve now graduated from P90X2, Brazil Butt Lift, The Ultimate Reset, TurboFire and I’ve just completed the first month of Insanity! After completing Insanity, my future goals are to complete the Asylum 1 & 2, ChaLEAN Extreme, Body Beast, Brazil Butt Lift Masters Series, Les Mills PUMP & Combat, RevAbs, —basically, I want to do them all!!!  ;)

I have some things that I still need help with (mainly, eating right) but this isn’t a race—and I’m still moving in the right direction!  I know I’ll reach my goals, it’s just a matter of time.  =)
