5 Ways to Improve Your Health

1.  Drink More Water

How much?  About 1/2 your body weight in oz (or more, but not less).

Why?  Well, water removes the by-products of fat.  It also reduces food intake because your stomach is more full!  It even raises your metabolism.  I recommend getting a nice water bottle (glass or BPA free) and figuring out how many oz you'd need to drink 4/5 times a day to get in your recommended amount, then stick to your plan!  Ironically, drinking more water even reduces water retention--aka bloating!  So drink up ladies & gents!

2.  Do What You Love

Okay--so as many of you know, I LOVE Beachbody programs.  They work for me--they are high energy, there's a ton of variety, zero commute time, and most importantly--no working out in public (cringe).

I love my "me" time, away from other people to just get in the zone and do what I need to do.  I realize that working out at home isn't for everyone, so do what YOU love.  Is it running?  Walking?  Is it going to the gym?  Classes??  Find what you love and DO it, because you've got to realize, if you DON'T love it, if it's not something you can do FOREVER, you have a strong possibility of slipping back into your old habits.  Unless you already LOVE working out...watch out for forcing yourself to do something that you truly don't enjoy. There are bazillion different ways to workout--keep trying new things until you find something that truly inspires you!

3.  Eat REAL Food

You may or may not know this about me...but I used to sneak to fast food places all the time.  I'd pay with cash that I kept in my car for "emergencies"  aka--bad days.  I'd even eat it in my car and throw away the bags before I would get home.  If was bad.  But guess what?  Right after I'd eat that junk, I'd be hungry again.  I was eating myself into a BIG problem.  Do you find yourself in the same situation?  Here's the answer:  eat REAL food.  If you stick to the outside of your grocery store--veggies, meats, dairy, whole grains--and away from all the junk in the middle (labels calk full of chemicals and sugar not to mention away from drive thrus) you'll feel 100% better and your body will THANK-YOU!  =)

3.  Eat More Frequent Meals

Eat 5/6 times a day instead of just 3 (or worse, 2!).  Don't skip breakfast--and yes, I know--"But when I eat breakfast I'm MORE hungry"  Well yeah?!  You're boosting your metabolism silly!!  For ideas on what to eat, check out LIVESTRONG.  It is truly amazing how much HEALTHY food you can eat in a day!!!

5.  Focus on You

Please realize that your health and well being are so much more than your physical appearance.  When I was at my heaviest, there was a lot going on INSIDE me, even more than what people saw on the outside.  I was unhappy with my relationships, my career, my environment, my finances,I wasn't spending any time on myself, or trying to improve.  Make sure that as you are continuing or beginning your fitness journey, you also make time to work on these key areas of your life.  Are you in a relationship?  When was the last time you sent a flirty text-message?  Are you a workaholic?  When was the last time you scheduled a vacation  (or a spa day?)  Graduated?  When was the last time you took a class just to learn something?  Is your house a MESS?  That's not a great environment to get YOUR act together.  This is just as important--if not MORE important than getting the physical stuff down, if you don't treat the underlying cause--slipping back into your old habits is very possible.

I am by no stretch of the imagination an expert, but these five key things have helped me lose and keep off 50 pounds in the last year and a half.  I hope they help you as well!
